Irvin
Karan has performed extensively throughout the NY area in both classical and jazz settings.
He has had the opportunity to work with artists such as: John Faddis,
Todd Coolman, Jim Pugh, Dave Taylor, Joe Alessi, Rick Stepton,Benny
Powell,Dave Lalama,Bobby Short and Charlie Persip.
Irvin began studying the trombone at age ten with George Monte an alumnus of the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. While attending the Manhattan School of Music, he studied with Hal Janks, Michael Powell, Vince Penzarella,Peter Randall, and Laurie Frink.
At the Conservatory of Music, SUNY Purchase, Irvin studied with Jim Pugh, where he was his very first student and received the Bachelor of Music Degree.
Irvin has performed with Aretha Franklin, "Sesame Street" with
Bob McGrath, "The Nutcracker" conducted by Jessie Levine
at the Westchester Performing Arts Center, AOL/Timer Warner "Christmas
Show ", Stan Rubin Orchestra, Charlie Persip's "SuperSound", Harlem Renaissance Orchestra, Current
Affair and Hank Lane Orchestras, Jazz Lobsters, Metropolitan Big Band, Blue Nitrous Big Band,Midnight Sun Big Band,Mac' Smoking Section, Hard Bargain, Riverside Orchestra (NY),Edison Symphony Orchestra(NJ),and the 92 St Y.
Appearances at Dizzy's Club Coca Cola, The Blue Note, BB King's, Sweet Rhythm, Carnegie Club, Swing 46, The Rainbow Room, Tavern On The Green, Marriott Marqui, Hammerstein Ball Room, Avery Fisher, Merkin Concert Hall, and the Kennedy Center, to name a few.
Irvin plays Edwards and Shires/Greenhoe Trombones along with Doug Elliott Mouthpieces.
