Folks my good friend has something new and exciting for us.
Jim’s long awaited solo album, X-Over Trombone : Genre Shattering Trombone Concerti for the 21st Century, will be released on the Albany Records label. Jim plays a dual role as solo trombonist and composer. His Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra was composed in 1992 and has been played by orchestras worldwide, most notably the New York Philharmonic. Also appearing in a dual role on this CD is fellow Eastman alum Jeff Tyzik. In addition to conducting the Colorado Symphony for this recording, he is also composer of one of the concerti. Jeff’s Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra was premiered in 2003 at the Eastman Theater with the composer conducting the Rochester Pops with Mark Kellogg, soloist. The third concerto featured on this CD is by Nathaniel Shilkret and was originally written for Tommy Dorsey in 1942. Dorsey premiered this work in 1945 with the Leopold Stokowski conducting New York City Symphony. |
